I see, but I don't think that adding a manifestation type for them is the only way to make it easier for your users to find them. It is really a soundrecording, since it can be several types of sound. Have you ever discussed about maybe tagging them all with a common subject heading and creating special pages or lists with all your Tonies to make them more visible in Arena? Or create and publish dynamic toplists over them most borrowed tonies? There are several things that can be done want to highlight parts of your collections, but I guess that have not had the time to learn everything yet! If you would like some help with this I can contact the German Axiell team and see if we can help you together.

And one more thing, have you seen our new function for changing manifestation type in bulk? That could be used for at least clean up all the different types that the Tonies have got during the migration and give all of them Tonaufzeichnung.

Hello,

there are Tonies with musical content as well as audio books and creative Tonies that can be recorded on by the users themselves. Tonies are a carrier medium, such as CDs or DVDs.

They are very popular and many of our users search the catalog specifically for Tonies. We would like to make it easier for them via the aspects.

We are using Tonaufzeichnung at the moment but are not finding it ideal since our users are searching for Tonies and do not know the term Tonaufzeichnung or that it stands for Tonies.

Yes, the fact that many of them are used is what prevents us from creating a list that is more streamlined so it can be that we will need to keep all the old forever :). I am actually not sure how the Tonies should in the best way. Why is Tonaufzeichnung not good? Is there more than sound in the tonies? Maybe "Multimedia" could be more suitable? Or is is more of an "audiobook" but not on CD or MP3?

No, I don't think that 344 and 347 is relevant here, but we are investigating how we can use them to create better media types in the future. The RDA content/media/carrier are to basic.

thank you for the kind reply and explanation. We find it a little bit sad that there will be no further manifestation types - especially for Tonies for which none of the options (Tonaufzeichnung, Spielzeug) fit properly.

Please let us know before you make any changes to the list, as we are currently still using the specific manifestation types (e.g. audiobook CD and audiobook MP3).

There is no information in our MARC21-fields 344 and 347 that would be relevant to this question. It would not be possible to filter information from these fields through the aspects, right?

Hi,

"No action" means that we are not planning to implement a more granular list of manifestations types and that instead recommend to use a more general manifestation types like Videogame. We are planning to clean up and shorten the current list and maybe implement some more general types like "Audiobook" without a specific format. We have also plans for implementing a solution for registering or importing information about specific characteritics of a medium, for example information that comes from MARC21-fields 344 and 347.

But we will not add more manifestation types to the list, and there fore this idea got status "No action". But thank you for submitting it and welcome back!
